  Emley
is a small village (population 1,800) 7 miles from the centre of
Huddersfield, a famous textile town, birthplace of Harold Wilson (Labour
Prime Minister), James Mason, Lord Hanson to name but a few. Emley itself
dates back to the ninth century, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of
1086. Emley was an important medieval town, and a Royal Charter was granted
by Henry 111 in 1253 to hold a market. Iron ore was mined and later coal,
and the-pink-pig factory is on the site of the old coal mine, which closed
in 1985, after more than 135 years. Emley is the site of the tallest
concrete structure in the UK, Emley Moor TV mast at 1080 ft. and is now a
listed building. The local Emley football team is
famous in recent times for its F.A Cup exploits.
